The Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) is a contributory scheme administered by Teachers' Pensions (TP) on behalf of the Department for Education (DfE). It is a defined benefit 'final salary' scheme and is one of the most important and valuable benefits available to teachers. The TPS not only provides you with a lump sum and regular income after you retire but also provides your family or other dependants with financial protection after you die.
The TPS was contracted out of the State Second Pension (S2P) up to 5 April 2016. For further information about pension schemes which were contracted out visit the GOV.UK website.
The TPS is a statutory scheme subject to the Teachers' Pension Regulations 1997 (as amended).
If you have previously been a member of the Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) and you are now a member of the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS) you can find further information in transferring in your previous LGPS pension rights to the Teachers' Pension Scheme (TPS).
