We are aware of the Elmes v Essex judgement. This case was heard before the High Court on 18 January 2018. The outcome removes the requirement for a nomination form for cohabiting partners (who meet certain criteria). The Home Office are working on the police pension regulations to comply with this. In future you will not need to complete a nomination form for cohabiting partners (who meet certain criteria) to receive pension benefits on your death, but it remains helpful if you let us know by completing a Pensions for partners - declaration form and notes (PDF, 158.7 KB).
