School changing to an academy

When a school changes to an academy there is a change in legal status. This means that the academy becomes its own LGPS employer. The academy is usually part of a trust.

The existing non-teaching staff employed by academy trusts retain eligibility for membership of the LGPS. Any new employees are automatically eligible.

If you are an existing member of the LGPS, your membership is unbroken even though your employer has changed.
