Absence and paying APCs, ARCs or Added Years

Your extra pension contributions may be affected if you are absent from work and you have entered into a contract to buy:

  • extra pension (Additional Pension Contributions (APCs)), or
  • Additional Regular Contributions (ARCs), or
  • extra Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) membership (added years)

If you are on authorised leave of absence, jury service, strike action, reserved forces leave, maternity, paternity or adoption leave, you must continue to make the extra pension payments as if you were not on leave.

If you are sick, you will continue to pay the extra pension contributions whilst you remain on full or reduced pay. You will not be required to pay the extra pension contributions during a period of no pay.
