Process of deferred benefit paid early on ill health

  1. You must complete the Request for early payment of deferred benefit form and submit it.
  2. We send a copy of your request to your former employer.
  3. Your former employer investigates your case. This includes referring you to an Independent Medical Practitioner (IRMP).
  4. The IRMP will require information on your former role.
  5. You will be required to provide medical evidence to support your case and/or your consent to obtain medical reports on your behalf.
  6. The IRMP reports to your former employer.
  7. Your former employer writes to you to let you know if you meet the criteria to release your benefit on the grounds of Ill Health.
  8. If it is deemed that you met the criteria for early payment, your former employer will tell us. We send you an estimate of your benefits and a Retirement declaration form. You complete the Retirement declaration form and return it to us.
  9. We pay your deferred benefit within 20 working days of receiving the completed paperwork from you and your former employer.
  10. If your former employer declines your request, you have the right of appeal under the Internal Dispute Resolution Procedure (IDRP).
